Hibiscus

Origin

Hibiscus is a genus of flowering plants belonging to the Malvaceae family, also known as the swallow family. There are hundreds of species within this genus, native to warm temperate, subtropical and tropical regions around the world.

Characteristics

Hibiscus plants come in many different shapes and sizes. The most recognisable feature of Hibiscus is its large flowers. These flowers can be a variety of colours, including red, pink, white, yellow and orange. Hibiscus plants also have attractive, dark green leaves.

Care

Hibiscus plants thrive in warm, sunny locations. They need well-draining soil and regular watering, especially during hot weather. Pruning can be done in late winter or early spring to maintain a desired size and shape.

Blooming time

The flowering time of Hibiscus plants depends on the specific species. However, most species flower in the spring and summer months.
