Tulip

Origin

Tulips may seem typically Dutch, but their origins trace back to ancient Iran, Afghanistan, and Kazakhstan. Nomads brought these vibrant flowers to Turkey, where even sultans adorned their turbans with them. By the 16th century, tulips had become a symbol of wealth

Characteristics

Tulips and their colours send different meaningful messages.

Red tulips symbolize love while yellow stands for happiness and appreciation. When somebody gives you white tulips, they want or give forgiveness. Pink tulips are for motherly love and different colours in an arrangement symbolize elegance.

Care

To keep your tulips looking their best, follow these tips:

  • Light: Avoid drafts, heating, and direct sun. Place them in indirect sunlight.
  • Ethylene: Keep tulips away from fruit, which releases ethylene and causes rapid ripening.
  • Vase: Use a clean vase with a narrow opening and wide bottom to prevent spreading and support the stems. Ensure tulips have room to breathe.
  • Preparation: Cut stems straight and remove excess leaves. No leaves should be in the water.
  • Water: Fill the vase with 5-10 cm of cold water, topping up with room temperature water. Clean the vase regularly and add flower food occasionally.
  • Hydration: Newly cut tulips need plenty of water. Keep stems submerged.

These steps will help your tulips thrive and brighten your space.

Blooming time

Tulips are perennial flowers that typically come back year after year.
Depending on where they are growing, you can get tulips year-round. And since you can get tulips in almost every colour you can imagine, this flower is popular every season.
While in spring commonly seen colours are yellow and pink, there are also fall colours which are sold mostly at the end of the year. As for the tulips, there is always something for everyone.
Even though tulips are not the national flower of the Netherlands, your household will look a lot more Dutch if you add some of these colourful flowers to it! Make yourself or someone else happy and order them now!
