How to keep cut hydrangeas looking beautiful and to give them a longer life.
Hydrangeas are spring and summer flowers that add beauty to our interiors. Unfortunately, these flowers are very delicate and, in order to enjoy them for longer, it is worth hardening them off properly before arranging a bouquet. Here are simple instructions to prolong the life of these flowers.
Instructions for extending the life of hydrangeas:
- First prepare a clean vase of fresh cold water.
- The second step is to cut the ends of the stems to the desired height to fit into your vase. When cutting the branches with a knife, do so at an angle to increase the water absorption area of the hydrangeas. The tips should be pruned daily. Excess lower leaves should be removed from the branches so that they are not below the surface of the water. Leaves decompose quickly and can contaminate the water, causing the flowers to wilt more quickly.
- If the flowers become limp and you want to bring them back to life Boil water and pour into a cup or jar.
- Then temper each twig by placing it in a cup of hot water and holding it briefly in very hot (almost boiling) water. Immediately place them in a vase of cold water.
- Add flower conditioner to the water to prolong the life of the flower. You can find them on the website or in the link below
- Keep the water clean. Change it daily and wash the container to remove any impurities. To prevent the flowers from rotting, you can add a little dishwashing liquid or citric acid to the water.
