Origin

Kalanchoes, native to Madagascar and South Africa, have become popular cut flowers in recent years. Their vibrant blooms and extended vase life make them a valuable addition to floral arrangements.

Characteristics

Kalanchoe cut flowers come in a wide range of colours. The blooms can be single or clustered, depending on the variety.  Unlike some cut flowers, Kalanchoes have thick petals. To ensure your Kalanchoe flowers thrive, follow these simple steps:

–          Put Kalanchoe flowers in a clean vase with clean water. Don’t add any cut-flower food

–          Cut the stalks diagonally, this increases the surface area for water absorption, and remove any leaves that would be under water

–          Change the water regularly: Every 2-3 days, remove the flowers from the vase, recut the stems, and replace the water with fresh.

–          Keep Kalanchoe flowers away from (ripening) fruit

Blooming time

Kalanchoe cut flowers are usually available year-round. However, their natural flowering period can vary depending on the specific variety.
