Virtual Grower Visit: Ecuador farm

One of our managers has visited the farm of Gypsophila in Ecuador. Here he saw the process of the Gypsophila and how they dye them. Getting the colour of the paint in the flower can take around 1 day to produce. They grow 27 hectares of Gyps and 5 hectares of delphinium. The farm has 500 employees with a total of 120 staff working post-harvest taking all the leaves off the stems manually. The farm grows mostly the variety Gyps Excellence, for 65%. The other varieties are Cosmic 20% and Million star 15%.

The Gyps is cut closed in tight bud and then put in the water in greenhouses to open enough for shipping which takes 8-10 days. Gyps is still one of the most used flowers or arrangements.
