JOB PURPOSE
· To ensure that the Plant Department is performing to maximum profitability and that the plants are purchased, delivered, labelled, displayed and sold, correctly and promptly to the Customers.
· To improve existing customer relationships and customer spend, the development of new customers and business for the Cash and Carry and Plant Department specifically.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Profitability
- Ensure turnover and profit margin targets are met as laid down by the Company.
- Analyse trading figures and liaise with Area Manager.
2. Product Buying
- Buying plants, ensuring the Company is providing the right quality, quantity and meeting the Customer needs.
- Maintain supplier base ensuring suppliers meet the Company’s requirements.
- Identify new suppliers i.e. better value for money.
- Organise with supplier credit notes where applicable and ensure they are honoured.
- Ensure deliveries match purchase orders.
- Share buying knowledge with other Cash & Carry Plant Managers.
3. Product Pricing & Presentation
- Pricing supplier invoices ensuring profit mark-up goals are met.
- Ensure information is consigned into Axerrio correctly and on time.
- Ensure all products are correctly bar coded on time.
- Labelling plants with correct plant passports
- All supplier invoices are handed over to the Site Manager promptly.
- Making sure all products are displayed properly and get enough sunlight, empty shelves/trolleys are removed and plants put together.
- Assist with DEFRA audit/inspections
4. Sales
- Ensure projected Sales targets are met.
- Be aware of customer needs and build a good relationship with them.
- Be aware of the outstanding debt with the customers and the movements of it on weekly basis.
- Customer Orders – Placing customer orders with suppliers ensuring efficient delivery.
- Monitor/identify where there are changes i.e. drop in sales with specific customers and take the necessary action to rectify (investigate and increase where possible).
- Monitor customer spending patterns in relation to external influences e.g. peak periods, national holidays etc. but also patterns regarding pickup and delivery and CC sales and Webshop sales.
- Identify potential new customers for the cash and carry and plant department specifically, contacting them by post, phone or visit to develop new business.
- Making sure pricelists and special offers are send out at least three times per week.
5. Stock Control
- Ensure stock level including quality and quantity and type of stock meets the needs of the customers and the needs of the business.
- Reduce plant prices and control wastage by i.e. stock levels that are not selling.
- Manage and control the stock to avoid pilfering of products i.e. regular stock takes etc.
- Security – ensure that procedures are in place so that the security of the company’s property and products are safe and accounted for i.e.
- Sales invoices are checked to ensure all products are paid/accounted for before leaving the building.
- Monitoring sales below costs, amended sales prices & credits given to customers.
- Achieved gross profits per customer.
- Tills are processing the plant sales correctly
6. Department Organisation
- Ensure Department is organised, tidy and efficient, making it attractive to Customers.
- Organise and allocate workload. Making sure a proper roster is in place.
7. Staff Management
- Ensure plant department staff are aware of their responsibilities, are trained to meet the needs of their job and meet the required performance level.
- Monitor staff behaviour i.e. time keeping, attendance, attitude to work and manage accordingly.
- Develop and motivate staff, encouraging good working relationships and team spirit.
- Ensure that all Company policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Ensure a safe working place and comply with our Health & Safety Procedures
8. Visiting Shows, Suppliers and Customers
- Attend national shows, trade shows, company open days, group meetings and other related promotional activities as required.
